– One Of The Bon Monastery In Central Tibet
Yungdrungling Monastery is also called Ralak Yungdrungling Monastery. The monastery is just across the Brahmaputra river on the way between Lhasa and Shigatse. The monastery is 170km west of Lhasa through 318 national highways.
The Yungdrungling is a Bon monastery which is founded in 1834. It is one of the newest Bon monasteries in Tibet. The monks in this monastery are mainly from the Aba Tibetan region of northern Sichuan prefecture.
The monastery has recently completed the renovation. On the roof of the main assembly hall, a swastika swirling anticlockwise represents the Bon monastery.
The monks in this monastery are very friendly and will welcome you to visit inside. The main assembly hall is impressive, with 1300 small statues of Thonpa Shenrab (Shakyamuni in Buddhist) along the walls with colourful murals depicting the life story of Thonpa Shenrab. However, you must keep in mind that make the round anticlockwise since it’s Bon monastery.
