Our 7days around Lhasa tour is suitable for those who have not much time. The journey will start from Lhasa where you will visit some of the most famous sites in Lhasa includes the landmark of Tibet – The Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple, Drepung Monastery, and Sera Monastery.
Beyond Lhasa city, you will drive to Shigatse via Gyantse. This route is one of the most interesting parts and the most famous scenic drive near Lhasa.
One the way you will see the Yamdrok Lake which is supposed to be one of the four holy lakes in Tibet. The lake sometimes called Torquise lake because of its deep blue color.
At Gyantse, you will visit the Gyantse Palchoe Monastery and Kumbum stupa. At Shigatse, you will visit the Tashi Lhunpo Monastery – the spiritual seat for the successive Panchen Lamas.
Lhasa Gongkar Airport
Upon arrival at the Lhasa Gongkar airport / Lhasa train station, our client will warmly welcome our Tibetan local tour guide and the driver with the traditional Tibetan white scarf.
We were driving for about an hour from the airport to Lhasa. And half an hour from the train station to the hotel. After check-in at the hotel, your guide will be briefing the tour itineraries for the next day. And relax in the hotel for the rest of the day to acclimatise to the high altitude.
We will begin our visit from Jokhang Temple, one of the most sacred temples in Tibet, built in the 7th century by the 33rd king of Tibet – Songtsen Gampo.
“Jokhang” means the temple of the Buddha builds for the enshrinement of the Shakyamuni image, which is believed to be inexistent before the lifetime of Shakyamuni. After visiting the temple, you can explore the surrounding Barkhor street and spend time walking around the Temple following pilgrims from all over the Tibetan plateau.
In the afternoon, we will visit Sera Monastery, one of three great monasteries of Gelugpa school and attend the debating session of the monks, which is quite popular in Sera.
Today we visit the stunning Potala Palace – the landmark of Lhasa and Norbulingka Palaces. Potala is the winter palace that was built in the 17th century by the fifth Dalai Lama.
Provides amazing views of the entire city and houses the private quarters of the Dalai Lama, numerous grand state rooms and chapels. Norbulingka Palace is the summer palace of the Dalai Lama, built in the 18th century by the seventh Dalai Lama.
Following Friendship Highway, while driving past Gampa La (4794m), we will have a break to appreciate majestic views of Yamdrok Yumtso Lake, a lake deep blue in colours and Nyanchen Khangsar Glacier standing just behind as proud at 7191m.
Ahead to westwards, we come across Karo La pass at 5045m. Glance through the road, and we can see huge glacier tumbling down into the road. After around 4hrs driving, we enter the town of Gyantse, where we will see beautifully landscaped Tibetan villages.
After breakfast at the hotel, have a quick visit to Gyantse Palchoe Monastery and the Kumbum Stupa. After enjoying and exploring Gyantse, we will take a 90km drive to Shigatse, the second-largest city of Tibet.
On arrival, we will visit the Tashi Lhunpo Monastery, one of Tibet’s largest functioning monasteries.
Today, we drive back to Lhasa through the G318 Friendship Highway along the Yarlung Tsangpo River (Brahmaputra) for 6hrs. After arrival in Lhasa, you will have half-day free time for shopping and exploring around.
