Mount Everest is the highest mountain in the world and one of the holy mountains for Buddhists. The trip to Mount Everest Base Camp is one of the top-selling tours in Tibet. The final point of the Everest base camp tour is to the Rongbuk Monastery – the highest monastery in the world.
Generally, there are never-ending tourists from overseas and Chinese tourists visiting Everest Base Camp from May to November every year, but the Spring and Autumn are the best time to see Mount Everest.
The best time to go to Everest Base Camp is from April to May and September to November. During these five months, even the temperature is a bit cold, but Everest is clear from the cloud most of the time.
We do not recommend going to Everest Base Camp from January to March because of the harsh and snowy climate. Moreover, the route to Everest Base Camp from Tingri is usually blocked by snow during these periods.
Mount Everest is located in China, Tibet and Nepal since the mountain makes the border between them. So if you look at Mount Everest on the map, the peak is precisely on the border.
There are two major base camps of Mount Everest, one on the north side, situated in the south of Tibet Autonomous Region and the other to the south, in Nepal.
Both climbers from the Tibet side and Nepal side climb and meet on the top of Mount Everest during the climbing seasons.
Here is the screenshot picture of Google Maps, which shows the borders on the summit of Himalayan mountain ranges, including Mount Everest.
Travelling to Tibet in a group or private tour is the only choice to get into Tibet because independent travellers to Tibet are not allowed.
To get to Tibet, foremost, you must need a Tibet travel permit through your local travel agent in Tibet. Then, to visit areas like Kailash and Mount Everest Base camp, you need an Alien’s travel permit and border permit. Both these two documents also quickly get through your local travel agency.
But, unfortunately, it’s impossible to apply for these documents by yourself, and you can’t travel to Tibet without the papers and a licensed tour guide. Tibet Focus Travel & Tours offers many different Mount Everest Base Camp tour packages and permits to travel in Tibet.
Fly, Train or Road to Tibet
Firstly, to get to Lhasa, you can fly or train from any city in China, which is the easiest way to get to Tibet.
Besides domestic flights, there is only one international flight between Lhasa and Kathmandu (Nepal). Therefore, if you take the flight from Kathmandu to Lhasa, we recommend taking the Sichuan Airline instead of China Airline.
Many tourists also enter Tibet from the Kyirong border and drive overland to Lhasa through Everest Base Camp. Then fly back to Kathmandu or others.
We recommend a minimum of two days to stay in Lhasa before heading to high-altitude areas like Everest Base Camp or Kailash region for all the groups.
While you acclimatise in Lhasa, we also arrange some sightseeing in Lhasa like the Potala Palace, Sera Monastery and so on.
The road to Everest Base Camp is well-paved and has a fantastic scenic route to the Rongbuk Monastery.
Most tourists start the Mount Everest Base Camp tour from Lhasa, but you can also do it the opposite way from the Kyirong Border.
The altitude of the Kyirong border is less than Lhasa, and we recommend staying two nights in Kyirong before driving up to Everest.
For the groups entering Tibet from the Kyirong border, we usually take a hike day in Kyirong, which helps many tourists in the past.
Mount Everest Base Camp Tour is the best-selling tour in Tibet. We have many different Everest tour packages, but the most popular is the eight-day private and group tour to Everest Base Camp.
If you enter Tibet from Nepal and start your tour from the Kyirong border, you need a China Group Visa from the Chinese embassy in Nepal. To obtain the group Visa, you must need at least three working days in Kathmandu with your original Passport.
Want to do the Everest base camp tour? No worries, all you need to do is pack your luggage and come. We, Tibet Focus Travel, will make your trip more comfortable and worry-free.
We will organise the complete package tour to Mount Everest Base Camp.
